Learners Voice Worries That AI Is Eroding Their Academic Skills, Investigation Reveals

As per latest investigation, learners are sharing concerns that employing AI is negatively impacting their capacity to learn. Numerous complain it renders schoolwork “effortless”, while some claim it limits their innovative capacity and impedes them from developing new skills.

Extensive Use of AI Among Students

A study focused on the utilization of artificial intelligence in United Kingdom learning centers discovered that merely 2% of students aged 13 and 18 said they did not use artificial intelligence for their academic tasks, while the vast majority indicated they frequently employed it.

Unfavorable Effect on Abilities

Despite artificial intelligence's popularity, 62% of the pupils said it has had a adverse effect on their competencies and growth at their educational institution. 25% of the respondents affirmed that artificial intelligence “makes it too easy for me to find the answers without doing the work myself”.

“What strikes me as remarkable is the depth of the responses,” the specialist said. “For 60% of students to say they are concerned that AI tools encourage copying rather than doing original work, that’s a very deep understanding of what your schoolwork is meant to help you do, and what the pitfalls and benefits are associated with this technology.”

The professional added: “Young people who are using this technology actually have a pretty sophisticated, quite mature understanding of what the technology does in relation to their schoolwork, which is fascinating because we don’t give young people enough credit when it comes to using technology in an educational space, unaided, in this way.”

Yet, the majority of pupils said using AI aided them develop fresh abilities, including 18% who indicated it helped them comprehend issues, and 15% who reported it assisted them generate “original and superior” ideas.
